The Chainsaw Man movie has already been released: Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc opened in Japanese theaters on September 19, 2025, and in U.S. theaters on October 24, 2025. Those are separate regional release dates—not a single worldwide launch.
If you’re asking when you can watch it at home, Sony announced December 9, 2025, for the film’s digital release. Subscription streaming is a separate release window, and availability depends on your country.
Chainsaw Man Movie Release Dates at a Glance
| Release type | Country or market | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Theatrical release | Japan | September 19, 2025 |
| Theatrical release | United States | October 24, 2025 |
| Digital release | Sony’s announced home-release window; check local storefronts | December 9, 2025 |
| Subscription streaming | Varies by territory and service | Check your regional catalog |
The Japanese and U.S. theatrical dates are detailed in the TOHO and Sony Pictures press information published by SciFi Japan. The December digital date comes from Anime News Network’s report on Sony’s home-release announcement.
The distinction matters: a movie can be available for a separate digital payment before it becomes part of a streaming subscription.
Why Do Some Listings Say October 29?
The U.S. release was originally announced for October 29, 2025, but it was moved forward to October 24, 2025, according to the updated distributor press information.
That explains why older trailers, articles, or search results may show a different date. For the final U.S. theatrical release, October 24 is the date to use.
Neither October date applies worldwide. Japan received the film earlier, and other territories had their own rollout schedules.
When Can You Watch the Chainsaw Man Movie at Home?
There are two different questions here: when the movie received a digital release, and when it becomes available through a subscription service.
Digital release: December 9, 2025
Sony announced a December 9 digital release for Reze Arc, as reported by Anime News Network.
That announcement should not be read as a promise that the movie is included with a streaming subscription. Digital storefronts may offer rental, purchase, or both, and those options can differ by country.
Before paying, check the listing for:
- Whether you’re renting the film or buying access to it.
- Which subtitle and dubbed-audio options are included.
- Any rental viewing deadline.
- Whether the listing is available in your region.
Subscription streaming: check the regional release
A streaming date in one country does not establish a worldwide release. For example, Anime.com reports a September 19, 2026, Prime Video date specifically for Japan. That is not the film’s original theatrical release date, and it should not be applied to Prime Video in other countries.
There isn’t a reliably established worldwide subscription date in the cited information. If you want to watch through Crunchyroll, Prime Video, or another service, search your local catalog for the full title, “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc.” A page for the television series alone does not establish that the movie is included.
Is Reze Arc a Sequel to Chainsaw Man Season 1?
Yes. Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc continues the anime after its first season rather than restarting the story or serving as a recap. The film’s press notes introduce the next stage of Denji’s story and his encounter with Reze.
The straightforward viewing order is:
- Watch Chainsaw Man season 1.
- Watch Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc.
Starting with the series gives you the necessary background on Denji, Pochita, Public Safety, and the relationships the movie builds on. You don’t need to read the manga first.
The film’s subtitle identifies the storyline it adapts. It isn’t a separate remake or an unrelated Chainsaw Man production, so including “Reze Arc” in your search helps you find the correct movie.
The Bottom Line
For the original theatrical release, the answer is September 19, 2025, in Japan and October 24, 2025, in the United States. Sony’s announced digital-release date was December 9, 2025.
If your real question is “Can I watch it with my subscription?”, check the movie’s listing in your country. The theatrical date, digital-release date, and subscription-streaming date are different—and none should be treated as a universal availability date.
